Our Elf on the Shelf, Jeffery, came by to see me today and brought this letter and talked with me about Santa and the elves plans for this December. They have been having some difficulties with their printers so if your elf shows up without the list you may need to print them for them.
Here are the PDFs
Here is Santa’s letter:
“Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas season to one of my favorite families. I am delighted that so many boys and girls love my presents and look forward to them. However, I am worried that the toys of Christmas presents are distracting from the BEST Christmas present, the gift of the Savior Jesus Christ. I give presents out of my joy for all Jesus has done for me. I may be a great present giver, but Jesus is even better. This year as I send out elves to comes to visit, look for a special message each day about this amazing gift.
Remember that as wonderful as it is to GET presents it is even better to GIVE. You don’t need money or things to give, you can give love and kindness. I hope these messages will help remind you of Jesus. I hope that all the kids on my nice list will try extra hard to be as kind and loving as Jesus and find how happy it makes them.
Spreading Happiness and Joy,
Here is the printable Santa’s letter
The first day your elf can bring the letter
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Our elf, Jeffery, told me he wants to show how strong he is by lifting a toothpick with marshmallows when he brings this note.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
Galatians 5: 22-23
Our Elf told me to make sure I have fruit on this day. I wonder where he will hide?
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jeffery said that some elves are planning to spell out “Peace” with m&m’s and others thought it would be silly to do a puzzle because of the “pieces”. Silly elves.
But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
1 Samuel 16:17
“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 5: 14-16
Jeffery likes to hang from our lights. He says some other elves may hug candles.
“And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.”
*Santa knows that we are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints so he included some scriptures from the Book of Mormon for our house. But he knows that a lot of his families prefer Bible verses only so he has that option too!*
“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Jeffery said he is going to hide next to the toy box with this note too:
“Christmas time is about giving. Can you find some toys you don’t need anymore to give to those kids that don’t have as many?”
Then either he can take them back for Santa to hand out, or we can find a family or donation center. Such a great idea! 😉
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”
Jeffery has plans to get out our toy boat and cruise the waves.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
Genesis 1: 26-27
“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.”
Luke 1: 30-31
We have a pregnant figurine that Jeffery may hid next to, however being with Mary and an angel from the nativity would be a good idea too.
“And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.”
“And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.”
2 Nephi 31:21
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
“But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people.
For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company.
And they did so, and made them all sit down.
Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.
And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.”
If your elf likes to make pancakes or donuts this may be a good day to feast on something yummy.
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Our elf is going on vacation. Round up the little people plane, Jeffery is flying.
“Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?
He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.”
Psalms 24: 3-4
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”
Jeffery wants to get all his toy friends and make a heart or play games.
“And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.”
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”
Matthew 7: 24-27
The elves have lots of ideas for this one. Some will hold a rock, some will build with blocks, others will make a snow storm of snowflakes.
And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.
Moroni 7: 45, 47
“Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
The elves are thinking something with hearts, a big paper heart, heart snowflakes, heart candies, etc.
“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
” And behold, he said unto them: Behold, I give unto you a sign; for five years more cometh, and behold, then cometh the Son of God to redeem all those who shall believe on his name.
And behold, this will I give unto you for a sign at the time of his coming; for behold, there shall be great lights in heaven, insomuch that in the night before he cometh there shall be no darkness, insomuch that it shall appear unto man as if it was day.
Therefore, there shall be one day and a night and a day, as if it were one day and there were no night; and this shall be unto you for a sign; for ye shall know of the rising of the sun and also of its setting; therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall be two days and a night; nevertheless the night shall not be darkened; and it shall be the night before he is born.
And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you.”
Heleman 14: 2-5
(Sort of a long one. You can take out verses 3 and 4 to shorten it. This is another Book of Mormon scripture. It’s an account of the prophecies of the people on the American continent watching for the sign of the Savior’s birth.)
The alternative scripture is the same prophecy of a new star that would appear from the old testament.
I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel…
Some of the elves want to hide next to the star on the tree, a nativity star, or make some fun paper stars
“And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.”
Jeffery likes to ride horses and donkeys. He may ride one this day, or he may move Mary and Joseph like they are traveling to Bethlehem.
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you”
Those tricky elves may open up every cupboard and drawer throughout the house.
“And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.”
We always like to read of the people in the Book of Mormon getting the sign of Christ’s birth and talk about that story. Samuel the Lamanite had prophesied of the Savior’s birth (scripture from day 20). The unbelievers started to persecute the believers saying that the time had passed and that the sign should have already come. Mocking them for believing in a Savior. The persecution got bad enough that they set a day and said if the signs had not appeared by the time the sun went down that day they would kill every man woman and child that still believed. The prophet Nephi was praying fervently for the lives of his people when he got this answer:
“Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfil all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets.
Behold, I come unto my own, to fulfil all things which I have made known unto the children of men from the foundation of the world, and to do the will, both of the Father and of the Son–of the Father because of me, and of the Son because of my flesh. And behold, the time is at hand, and this night shall the sign be given.
And it came to pass that the words which came unto Nephi were fulfilled, according as they had been spoken; for behold, at the going down of the sun there was no darkness; and the people began to be astonished because there was no darkness when the night came.
And there were many, who had not believed the words of the prophets, who fell to the earth and became as if they were dead, for they knew that the great plan of destruction which they had laid for those who believed in the words of the prophets had been frustrated; for the sign which had been given was already at hand.
And they began to know that the Son of God must shortly appear; yea, in fine, all the people upon the face of the whole earth from the west to the east, both in the land north and in the land south, were so exceedingly astonished that they fell to the earth.
For they knew that the prophets had testified of these things for many years, and that the sign which had been given was already at hand; and they began to fear because of their iniquity and their unbelief.
And it came to pass that there was no darkness in all that night, but it was as light as though it was mid-day. And it came to pass that the sun did rise in the morning again, according to its proper order; and they knew that it was the day that the Lord should be born, because of the sign which had been given.
And it had come to pass, yea, all things, every whit, according to the words of the prophets.
And it came to pass also that a new star did appear, according to the word.”
3 Nephi 1:13-21
I find it so very humbling that the night of the Savior’s birth so many were praying for him to come into the world. Standing up and believing in him with all they had. Placing their lives on the line like so many other Christians are today.
Some elves stay for Christmas day some travel home with Santa. Your elf may include this with the Christmas story on Christmas eve or bring it on Christmas. The timeline depends on the personal family.
“When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”
